He Kōrero Tahi: Common Ground and Collective Challenges in Aotearoa’s School Libraries (22791)
SLANZA (School Library Association of New Zealand Aotearoa) advocates for the vital role of school libraries in supporting literacy, wellbeing, and equitable learning outcomes for all students. In this presentation, we will explore the broad challenges facing the school library sector in Aotearoa, drawing on recent NZCER research and the lived experiences of our members.
From inconsistent provision and staffing to lack of national policy and recognition, school libraries across Aotearoa face increasing pressure. Yet these challenges are not unique — they reflect global concerns about how we value and support school libraries in a changing educational environment.
He kōrero tahi, he huarahi pai ake — through shared dialogue, we find better pathways.
This session offers an opportunity to share insights, amplify advocacy, and find common ground with international colleagues as we work collectively to strengthen the future of school libraries.
