We all know the benefits of reading, and particularly reading our own stories. We also know that people are reading less, and in some cases not at all. How can teachers, librarians, and the book industry work together to build a better reading culture among young people? Reading Australia’s Nicola Evans and Jenny Ryan will discuss the importance of getting students reading Australian literature with Anna Burkey (Australia Reads) and Karys McEwen (school librarian and author of All the Little Tricky Things and The Paperbark Tree Committee). The panel will explore reading behaviour research, quality and diverse text selection, and the important role of the school library in fostering a love of literature.
